Barbara Siegal came to San Diego in 1977 from Queens, New York. She graduated cum laude from Queens College in Flushing, New York in 1976 with a BA degree, where she majored in Fine Art. She is also a graduate of the New York School of Interior Design and attended oil painting classes at the Art Students League in New York City. In San Diego, she studied with many well‑noted watercolorists. Although she recently expanded to oils and acrylics, Barbara's first love was painting in watercolors. A full‑time artist, she paints in a traditional manner, focusing on landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, florals and still lifes. Sometimes she paints from imagination. Barbara does not want to get locked in to any one style of painting. "I want to be free to paint what I want in a manner which I find suitable at the time of that painting". There are two elements that are recognizable in her work. One is the bold, brilliant and beautiful hues with which she creates her paintings and the other is the feeling of tranquility which seems to come across in her work. Barbara's work has been accepted into many juried shows on local, statewide, national and international levels, sometimes receiving awards. She has had many one‑person shows at local, as well as out‑of‑state, galleries. Her works can also be seen in public buildings throughout the county. Many of her works are in private collections throughout the United States and have been published in many art magazines, as well as on corporate calendars. She is listed in Who's Who in America and the American Registry of Outstanding Professionals. Barbara has taught watercolor classes to beginners, forming her own workshops. In 1997, she organized a small group of artists known as "Different Strokes" and has been showing with them around the county. Barbara is past president of many art associations, such as the La Jolla Art Association, the San Diego Watercolor Society, the La Jolla Art Assn., the Artists Guild of the San Diego Museum of Art and the Clairemont Art Guild. She has also served on the board of the San Diego Art Institute.
