Daniella Foletto was born and educated in Paris, France. In her life, and her art, she embodies the artistic heritage and creative energy of her Italian father, and Swedish mother. She began to draw at two years old and was drawing figures, faces, and animals at three. This was early evidence of a unique artistic talent that would exhibit itself in many different and creative ways throughout her life.
As a young adult, Daniella married an American Diplomat and traveled extensively throughout the world. During a visit to her hometown, Paris, she was discovered by the famous Hungarian film director Jean Negulesco. From that initial meeting, she was signed by 20 th Century Fox Studios and embarked in a successful television and film career even receiving an Emmy nomination. She co-stared with such leading men as Richard Burton, Ugo Tognassi, Rossano Brazzi, Jack Palance, and David Niven.
Even during those productive and rewarding years as an actress, Foletto felt most fulfilled and complete whenever she returned to painting. She finally realized that the glamorous and exciting detours in her life had ultimately brought her back to her one true love, painting. Her creative potential as a painter came with deep personal sacrifices. She left her film career, and eventually her marriage.
Since then, Daniella has had many solo exhibitions and group showings in numerous galleries throughout the United States. Her paintings are part of many prominent private and corporate collections.
Her most recognizable trademark as an artist started with her "Prehistoric Collection". As a young girl,
Foletto visited the Lascaux Caves in Southern France. There she witnessed the 15,000-22,000 year old art on the cave walls. So deep was her visual impact, she vowed one day to paint her own interpretation. When she felt ready, she began to recreate the heavy texture of the cave walls on her canvases. She then painted in earthly colors the majestic and forceful beauty of ancient herds of horses, deer and aurochs (bulls).
Soon after, Daniella discovered another source of beauty in our world, Africa. Returning from her trip to Kenya, she painted with passion, the "African Collection". Moved greatly by the raw beauty of wildlife and the proud and free animals of the African plains, she went on to create paintings that encompassed her love for all living beings.
In her insatiable search of inspiration, she returned to her father's roots, Venezia, Italy. A new Italian collection took life called "Venetian Love Letters". Romantic thoughts of the past, present and future are captured in one moment on canvas combining contemporary and classical moods. This work led to another collection "Tuscany". Memories of Daniella's family vineyard, recollections of the rolling hills, family
dinners at the table with wine, flowers and music, visits to the family cellar full of odorant wine barrels bathed in golden candlelight, helped to inspire this series.
After her trip to the South Pacific, Foletto could not wait to share the fantastic raw colors of the skies of Moorea and the lime green ocean, with its infinite variations of dark blues and turquoise. Influenced by the untouched beauty of the islands, she painted the exuberant colors of the flowers of Tahiti, the little huts nestled in luxurious vegetation, and the swaying palms along the white sand beaches. This series is called "South Pacific".
Her latest collection is the perfect tableau of endless fields of flowers, inspired by the gardens of Giverny, France, and the iris garden of her sister's French cottage and is entitled "Floral Fields". All images are available in limited edition prints on canvas or paper. Various sizes are available in the edition.
