Born and raised in Southern California, Ken Aldridge comes from a family of painters that stretches for many generations. He started drawing as a child and immersed himself in studies of artists such as Carravagio, De Chirico, Monet, Van Gogh, Dali, and Rembrandt. It was during this time he began his portrait work. Through high school his interest in art continued and he won many awards in regional art competitions. He also pursued architectural studies during his college years. But it wasn't until his early 30's, in 2003, that he finally heeded the call he'd felt all his life: to pursue art professionally. A large part of his body of work is portrait paintings and drawings that portray images of some of Ken's favorite artists. His focus is primarily on jazz musicians, but he portrays other genres of artists as. His attention to intricate detail and design is impressive. He not only captures his subjects' likeness, but amazingly, he seems to capture their emotions, their humanity, and their spirit. In addition to Ken's portrait work, he also creates "Dualist" pieces that display his talent in realist works by painting the frame in a hyper-realistic style onto the canvas. These paintings showcase Ken's love for the Masters that he has deeply studied. These creations have qualities that range from Impressionism, Symbolism, and Surrealism to the Abstract. Ken is also a brilliant and inventive drummer with a mastery of jazz, rock, and alternative music. His musical involvement spans two decades. He was formally trained at Orange County Drums in Orange County and is an alumnus of the Prestigious Percussion Institute of Technology in Los Angeles. He also has a vast knowledge of music history and has spent years studying the lives and music of those he admires. Ken's work is exquisite. He gives 100% of himself to each and every piece. His work is appealing to both the art collector and the music enthusiast. Original paintings and drawings, as well as limited edition Giclee prints (signed and numbered by Ken) are currently available. |
